Privacy Policy
Effective July 2026
Button Pest Control (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. Button Pest Control operates as Paul Button t/a Button Pest Control (ABN 52 596 097 818) and operates in Victoria. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information, both through our website (buttonpestcontrol.com.au) and when we provide pest control services. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. The information we collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
Identity and contact details: name, postal and service address, email and phone number, and (for business clients) company name and ABN.
Service information: details about your property or site, the pests treated, products used, service history, reports, quotes and photos taken during inspections.
Payment information: the details needed to invoice you and process payment. We do not store full card numbers; card payments are handled by our payment provider.
Sensitive information (health): where relevant to safe treatment, information you give us about allergies, asthma, chemical sensitivities or other health conditions of people at the property. This is “sensitive information”, and we collect it only with your consent and only to deliver the service safely (see clause 3).
Website and device information: when you visit our website we may collect your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and information collected through cookies and analytics (see clause 9).
2. How we collect it
We usually collect personal information directly from you: through our website contact form, by phone or email, or in person when we attend your property. Sometimes we collect it from others, such as a real estate agent, property manager, strata manager or referrer who arranges a service on your behalf. If we collect information about you from someone else, we take reasonable steps to make sure you are aware of this policy.
3. Consent to collect sensitive (health) information
By giving us health or allergy information about yourself or others at the property, you consent to us collecting and using it for the purpose of planning and carrying out the service safely, and you confirm you are authorised to provide information about other occupants. You do not have to provide it, but without it we may not be able to treat the property safely.
4. Why we use your information
We use personal information to:
Respond to enquiries and provide quotes;
Schedule, carry out, document and follow up pest control services;
Prepare service reports and comply with pesticide record-keeping laws;
Invoice you and manage payments and accounts;
Send you service reminders and account messages;
Meet our legal, insurance and safety obligations; and
With your consent or where the law allows, send you information about our services (see clause 7).
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We disclose it only as needed to run the business, including to:
Our pest control reporting and records platform (ePest Reports, epestreports.com), which we use to prepare reports and invoices and to store service records;
Our payment provider, accountant and bookkeeper;
Any technician or subcontractor we engage to perform your service;
Our insurers and professional advisers where reasonably required;
Regulators or authorities where required or authorised by law (for example, health or environmental authorities); and
Our IT, email and website providers who host or support our systems.
6. Direct marketing
We may send you information about our services by email, SMS or post where you would reasonably expect it or where you have consented. Every marketing message will identify us and include an easy way to opt out, and we will stop on request. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth). Service and account messages (such as appointment reminders) are not marketing and may still be sent.
7. Storing information overseas
Some of our providers, including our reporting platform and email/IT providers, may store or process data on servers located outside Australia (for example, in France). Before disclosing personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the APPs.
8. Keeping information safe and how long we keep it
We hold information in secure systems and take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or to meet legal and record-keeping obligations, then we destroy or de-identify it.
9. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies to help it work and to understand how visitors use it. Some cookies are necessary for the site to function; others (such as analytics or marketing cookies) are optional and you can decline or disable them through our cookie controls or your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect how the site works.
10. Anonymity
You can browse our website and make a general enquiry without identifying yourself, though we will usually need your contact details to quote or provide a service.
11. Automated decision-making
We do not use automated processes or artificial intelligence to make decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you. If this changes, we will update this policy to explain how those processes are used, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
12. Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong or out of date. Contact us using the details in clause 14. We will respond within a reasonable time. There is normally no charge, and if we cannot give access or make a correction we will explain why.
13. Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first (clause 14) and we will investigate and respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): phone 1300 363 992, website oaic.gov.au, or GPO Box 5288, Sydney NSW 2001.
